Common Questions

Do I have to measure myself?

No. Measuring yourself is one route of several, and it is not the one most people choose. You can pick a standard size, adapt a standard size, measure a shirt you already own and like, or send us a shirt and let us measure it. Any of those gets you a shirt without a tape measure going round you.

I live alone. How can I take measurements?

You may not need body measurements at all. The easiest route for most people living alone is to measure a shirt that already fits you the way you like — it lies flat on a table and needs nobody's help. If you would rather not measure anything, send us a shirt and we will take the measurements from it, or simply choose one of our standard sizes.

Can I visit the studio to be measured?

Yes, through Edinburgh Tailoring Company's in-person service. Please get in touch and we will tell you how to arrange it.

In-studio tailoring is a separate service, with its own pricing and its own fitting process. A SHIRTMKR online order does not include a studio measurement appointment.

What happens if my first shirt doesn't fit?

That depends on who decided the fit, and we say which applies before you pay.

If you chose your own finished fit — a standard size, an adapted standard size, or measurements taken from a shirt you own — we make the shirt to the specification you confirmed. If you later want it a little different, we record those changes and apply them to your next shirt.

If you asked us to interpret your fit — from your body measurements, or from a shirt you sent us — your first shirt on that new fit carries a one-time First Fit Remake if the fit needs meaningful correction. Our fit promise explains both in full, including the conditions.

Can I return it because I've changed my mind?

Every SHIRTMKR shirt is cut and made to the specification you confirm, for you. Because of that, we do not offer change-of-mind returns in the way a shop selling from a shelf can.

There is a short window straight after ordering in which the order can still be cancelled. That is an early cancellation concession, not a general returns promise, and our cancellation terms set out the period and what it refunds.

Three separate things, which we keep separate on purpose: cancelling an order in that early window; a shirt that is faulty or not made to the specification you confirmed, which we put right with your statutory rights unaffected; and the First Fit Promise where it applies. None of those is a change-of-mind return, and a made-to-order shirt does not carry one.
