Choosing Your Size and Pattern

Seven ways to get the right starting point

SHIRTMKR gives you several ways to choose or create the fit of your shirt.

The right route depends on what you already know, whether you have a shirt you like, and how much control you want over the finished measurements.

Choose a Standard Size

Select your preferred fit and collar size from our finished-shirt size chart.

This is the simplest route and works well when one of our standard sizes already suits you.

Price: Free

Best for:

  • Customers who know their usual shirt size

  • Customers happy with a standard finished fit

  • First orders where no changes are needed

This route does not create a saved custom pattern.

Adapt a Standard Size

Start with one of our standard sizes and make up to three changes in quarter-inch increments.

For example, you may wish to:

  • Add sleeve length

  • Reduce the waist

  • Increase the cuff

  • Add shirt length

  • Adjust the shoulder

You only need to tell us the changes you want. If one adjustment requires a connected pattern change, our production team will handle it.

Price: £25

This route creates a saved pattern that can be reused or amended later.

Measure My Own Shirt

Measure a shirt you already enjoy wearing and use those finished-garment measurements as the basis of your new pattern.

You can copy the shirt closely or make small improvements.

For example:

  • Add 0.50" to the sleeve

  • Reduce the waist

  • Increase one cuff for a watch

  • Add length to the body

Price: £25

This route creates a reusable saved pattern.

Construction methods vary between shirtmakers, so an exact replica of another shirt cannot be guaranteed.

Send Us Your Shirt to Measure

Send us a shirt you already own and we will measure it professionally.

Your order remains on hold until the shirt arrives and the measurements have been recorded. Your original shirt will be returned with the completed order.

Price: £25

You are responsible for sending the shirt to us.

This route creates a reusable saved pattern.

Create My Own Pattern

Provide your body measurements and choose your preferred fit.

We use those measurements, together with the correct fitting allowances, to calculate a finished-shirt pattern.

Price: £49

Best for:

  • Customers who do not have a suitable shirt to measure

  • Customers who want to begin from body measurements

  • Customers who need a more individual starting point

This route creates a reusable saved pattern.

Use a Saved Pattern

Choose a pattern already stored in your SHIRTMKR account.

This is the quickest route when the fit already works for you.

Price: Free

You can use the same pattern with a different cloth or design.

Amend an Existing Saved Pattern

Choose one of your saved patterns and make changes before placing a new order.

The previous version remains stored against the orders that used it, while the amended measurements are saved as a new version.

Price: £25

Best for:

  • Changes in body measurements

  • A different fit preference

  • More or less sleeve length

  • Cuff changes

  • Small refinements after wearing a previous order
